The second annual National Day of Civic Hacking is almost here!

On May 31 – June 1, cities around the world will hold hackathons to create and build technology-based solutions to problems in their local communities. Whether you’re a software developer, entrepreneur, or just a citizen, get involved and support one of the two events happening in the Austin community.

ATX Hack for Change

ATX Hack for Change will hack away at challenges pitched by local non-profits, activists, and the City of Austin. Project missions come from many areas, but they’re all focused on doing social good for all Austinites – bettering our environment, public transit, arts and culture, government transparency, health and wellness, and hunger and food waste are a few examples. The website lists all the projects submitted, so you can even pick out one that you’re passionate about before the day of the hackathon.

Hack4Austin

Hack4Austin will work on ideas for tech-based solutions that address the needs of Austin kids. Non-profits with specific challenges posed by budget and resource constraints will present for developers and designers on the day of the event. Participants will be able to choose a project they’re passionate and form teams.

Swag

A variety of prizes will be awarded at both events throughout the weekend. (We’ve heard talk of SXSW 2015 Interactive badges, so look sharp!) There will also be food, drinks, snacks, and networking along the way. But the real payoff is the chance to come together with other Austinites and support social good in the community that we all know and love. So join us to create change through code!
